Before bed around 12:30 AM, the battery life was at 85 percent. This test began at 6:55 PM ET at 100 percent battery. I then booted up the same video used in the previous test. As with the previous test, I charged the MacBook Pro to 100 percent, set the display to 50 percent brightness, and made sure no other app besides Chrome was running. For good measure, I also restarted the laptop after the update.

I updated to Chrome version 1.177, which is the latest version at time of writing.

I was expecting to see a boost, but the final runtime left my jaw on the floor. After seeing how long I could run a video before the Chrome update, I was eager to see how much longer the MacBook Pro 16-inch would last post-update. MacBook battery life after the latest Chrome update Then again, given how performant this specific MacBook Pro is, I wasn’t terribly surprised.Īt 9:50 AM, I received a low battery warning when the laptop was at 10 percent charge. Having the battery drain by 25 percent after running a video for close to five hours before the update was impressive. Before I went to bed around 12:30 AM, the battery had decreased to 74 percent. I began the test at 7:20 PM ET at 100 percent battery.
